African Baskets

African Baskets are the baskets that filled smiles and lights in the lives of many African women. African women, by weaving the African baskets, not only earned money and supported their families but also converted this African Baskets weaving techniques as an international secret of turning this art into an industry. This African Baskets weaving industry became more profitable for African women and became a nightmare for the American women. This industry helped to develop the social responsibility and gatherings among African women and helped them to excel in learning new skills that will be helpful not only for them but also to the economy. Generally, African women weave Baskets of type coiled whereas African men will weave woven baskets that are useful to hold clothes, medicines etc.
In order to make an African Basket, African women generally rely on the materials that are available in abundant in nature itself. They do not need any particular manufactured materials but they find the materials they need to weave the African baskets from the nature itself in the form of plants, grass, reeds, roots and fibres like so forth. In order to give colours to the African baskets, they will again rely on nature itself. They will use some sort of plants and their juice as colours for their baskets. For example, to give Orange colour for their baskets, they will use a type of plant root, which is boiled. African people are experts in identifying what plants gives what colours and they know how to extract colours from plants. For some colours, they can directly get from the plants and for some other colours; they will rely on applying certain techniques. More interesting thing to know is that they will get the Khaki colour by boiling the mixture of cow dung and palm leaves.
The African baskets that are weaved by women are peculiar in nature. The coil baskets are generally weaved by folding the fibre in the form of coils and they use the same fibre to hold and strip the basket. Some baskets will be coiled very tightly such that even we can hold water in them. Certain tribes of Africa are specialists in creating the colourful pattern and intricacies of these baskets. Usually, to get the idea of which pattern is to be designed on the baskets; African people again rely on nature itself.
Many of the design patterns that are used on the African baskets will send some message to the world. For example, the masculinity message is sent to the world by designing a triangle pattern on the African basket. This means, if they design a single triangle, then it represents a single man and if they design a double triangle, then he is a married man. Similarly, if they design a diamond, it is female and a double diamond represents a married woman. Generally, baskets are stitched with big needles and more strength is necessary to stitch the basket without having the fibres overlap and without any errors. From the quality work of the African products itself; we can come to know what are the concentration levels of the African men and women. Generally, the furnishings and finishing's of these baskets will appear outside only. The interior of the baskets remains rough. African baskets come in a wide variety of slices, colours and types. In creating these baskets, the creativity of the African personnel are highlighted in the sky, and the comfort and quality and durability of these items makes people who bought it remember their extravagant effort all the times. |
